Town manager reported that the town has closed on 310 Water Street (the former laundromat) and now owns the parcel, with plans to issue a request for proposals for full demolition, concrete removal, grading and seeding, and to designate the lot as permanent open space.
"The town of Northfield officially owns that property," the manager said, and added the next steps are to prepare an RFP for demolition and site restoration. The manager said the town intends to prohibit future impervious surfaces so the lot remains open space.
The manager also announced a public drop-in presentation on the Horse Brothers Dam project to be held tomorrow from 4 to 8 p.m., featuring engineer Roy Schiff and Karina Daley, and encouraged community attendance. He said contractors are expected on-site at the Norwich Cyber Building within two to three weeks to begin demolition activity.
Other manager items included ordering a defibrillator for the municipal facility and discussing a downtown business request to occupy two parking spaces from June through September for tables (a parklet concept). The manager asked the board to consider parklet policy guidance as the town balances safety and parking preservation.
The board recorded the managers report and set follow-up tasks: issue the RFP for 310 Water Street demolition, publicize the Horse Brothers Dam open house, and consider draft policy for temporary street/parking-space uses.
