Fremont City School Board approves donations, counseling MOU, student placements and budget adjustments

The Fremont City School Board voted unanimously on a slate of routine business items at its regular meeting.

The board approved the minutes from the September meeting and accepted a lengthy list of donations. The superintendent asked the board to consider a memorandum of understanding with Anthony's Villa to provide counseling support options for students and families; she told the board that the contract would not obligate district funds for the district component. "Anthony's Villa would offer our students and their families in the Fremont School community, this would be another counseling support option," the superintendent said.

The board approved two final foreign exchange students for the school year (named Ruba and Billy), noting district policy allows up to six exchange students. Members also approved planning for a Ross High School varsity softball trip to Myrtle Beach over spring break; the superintendent said the trip would be at no cost to the district and would include preseason tournament play.

A large technology purchase to replace a middle‑school lab site — to be paid for with career‑technical dollars — was approved to support the engineering program. The board also approved personnel items including a resignation, appointments (including bus drivers), certified and support substitutes, supplemental contracts and mentor support for novice teachers.

The treasurer requested approval for staff attendance at an out‑of‑district, multi‑day conference for treasurer's office support staff; the board approved the travel. The board accepted an appropriation request tied to "Project Attend," funded by a United Way donation intended to remediate attendance barriers for families (the superintendent cited small supports such as alarm clocks as possible uses). The August general fund financials were reviewed and approved; staff explained a recoding of tangible personal property taxes and noted timing differences from payroll cycles as drivers of month‑to‑month variances.

All motions on these items passed on roll call votes with affirmative tallies from board members Missus Bloom, Miss Lehman, Miss Lewis, Mister Nalley and Mister Price; no formal dissents were recorded.

The meeting concluded with board member communications, including congratulations to a National Merit Scholarship recipient and condolences to the family of Ken Dominger’s wife.
