Technology director outlines cybersecurity, device and network capacity for Mehlville R-IX

Tyson Sighetty, director of technology services for Mehlville R-IX, presented an update Wednesday on the district's technology operations, cybersecurity posture and support for classroom instruction.
Sighetty described recent work including Google Workspace security policy changes, more rigorous phishing simulations for staff, support for EduCLIMBER and Gemini AI tools, completion of Windows 10 end-of-life migration and ongoing enforcement of CIPA and COPPA rules to limit student access to inappropriate content.
He told the board the technical staff supports an average of more than 3,500 devices, resolved over 14,000 help-desk tickets last year, manages roughly 12,500 email accounts and nearly 50 terabytes of storage, and that continuous monitoring tools blocked approximately 710,000 malicious sites last year. Sighetty framed the department's purpose as keeping students on task and protecting data.
He said the department is planning for price instability, storage costs, increased AI use and staffing challenges that could affect wireless and cybersecurity management, and he thanked the team for operating with a relatively small staff.
Board members thanked the technology staff and noted that many questions from the public were already addressed in the district's eBoards system.
