Board accepts surplus bids, approves architect RFP for $1.37M road project and enters executive session

At its Feb. 24 meeting the Lee County Board of Education moved forward on surplus property and capital work before briefly going into executive session.

Staff presented bid tabulations and recommended accepting the highest bidders for several surplus-property items and moving forward with demolition once asbestos abatement is complete. A board member moved to accept the surplus-property bids; a second was recorded and the board proceeded to the next agenda items.

During superintendent communications the superintendent said he had met with funding representatives and filed an official request for an additional $1,370,000 needed to finish a road project connected to a central high school. The superintendent told the board that roughly $1,000,000 should be available on July 1 and that, because the project exceeds $1,000,000, the district must issue an RFP for an architect. “So we just need a motion and a second to do an RFP for the architect for the road project,” the superintendent said; the motion and second were made and the board voted.

On the motion to issue the RFP for an architect, board members Braxton, Covey, Esten and Cherry recorded aye votes and the motion carried. The board then announced it would move into an executive session. The board said it entered executive session “pursuant to KRS 61.810(1)(c).”

The board later returned to open session and the chair announced that no action had been taken during executive session. The board set its next meeting for Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
