The Bellefontaine City Clerk reported two new liquor-license applications at the Jan. 6 council meeting: an application from Tokyo Marysville at 721 North Main Street and an application related to Speedway (listed as Speedway/7-Eleven No. 42739 at North 68).
Mister Sholly advised the clerk that the city has an opportunity to object to transfers or new licenses and that objections often come from the police department when there have been substantial criminal incidents at an establishment. He said the Speedway packet appears to be a transfer-style application (a "T-rex" application as referenced in the transcript) and asked the clerk to hold off mailing it while he reviews the materials. The clerk agreed to hold the Speedway filing pending follow-up.
The clerk said she would mail the other application if there were no objections. If the council elects to object in the future, the matter would proceed to an informal hearing where the city and applicant could make their cases as described by the law director in the meeting.
