Council schedules Feb. 17 public hearings for Alexander annexation and alley vacation

The Bellefontaine City Council scheduled public hearings for Feb. 17 on an annexation request for about 2.5 acres on Township Road 179 (parcels identified as owned by Gary Alexander) and on an alley vacation approved by the Planning Commission.
Engineer Bischoff told council the annexation would proceed with a Planning Commission recommendation of R-1 (single-family residential). The planning commission had passed the alley vacation earlier but was one signature short of a waiver that would have otherwise avoided a public hearing; because of that missing signature, the city will proceed with a hearing.
Council set the Alexander annexation hearing to begin at 7:00 p.m., followed by the alley-vacation hearing at 7:15 p.m., both on Feb. 17 in Council Chambers. The law director noted that some matters still require published notice under Ohio law and that the city is using a neighboring newspaper for such required publications.
