Bellefontaine City Council approved a motion to appoint Doug Elton to the Board of Zoning Appeals after Mayor Kristin introduced him as a retired Honda engineer and long-time local resident who volunteered to serve.
The mayor also presented a six-minute promotional segment produced with Viewpoint to market Bellefontaine to potential residents and businesses; a one-minute cut of the piece will be distributed on the Fox Business Network and the six-minute segment will air on additional stations. The mayor urged council and the public to share the material when it appears on the city's channels.
Olivia Cobey, the new downtown event coordinator for the Downtown Partnership, introduced herself to council and outlined planned events: a Chocolate Walk on Feb. 13 with about 25-26 stops, a St. Patrick's Day bar crawl in March and a Spring Shop Hop in April. Cobey said none of the upcoming events will require road closures.
The council unanimously approved the Elton appointment and responded positively to the promotional effort and new downtown programming.
