Mike Wall told commissioners: “My Social Security number is on a dark web,” and cautioned that signatures scanned into county digital files could be used to fabricate documents. He asked that the matter be discussed in closed session because discussing details publicly could create risks.
Commissioners and staff advised Mr. Wall to submit his concerns in writing and said county IT and legal staff — and, if necessary, law enforcement — would examine current procedures, public‑records release practices and the security of scanned documents. One commissioner proposed a near‑term meeting of the county’s IT staff and legal team to assess firewalls and signature handling and report back. The county later entered a closed session in which commissioners took two items up; upon returning they approved a personnel reclassification and decided not to act on the second closed-session investigative matter.
