District technology staff reported the results of a competitive E-Rate bid process for network equipment for the new middle school and recommended selecting CVE (transcript reference: CVE/CBE Technologies) as the vendor providing the best value. The board moved and seconded to accept the recommendation and approved the purchase after a short discussion.
The presenter said equipment to be purchased includes switches, wireless access points and backup batteries. Technology staff explained that E-Rate supports periodic 'refresh' funding (every five years) and that high school equipment was upgraded last year; the current proposal covers remaining sites except the middle and high school. The district also approved a separate CVE Technologies proposal to refresh network equipment for other schools in the district.
Board members asked clarifying questions about the scope (which schools are included) and staff confirmed the middle school purchase is for the new middle school and the refresh excludes high school and middle school where most equipment already exists. Roll call was taken and the motions carried.
