The Molalla River SD 35 Board voted to accept a Student Investment Account (SIA) allocation of $5,135,048.66, a biennium amount the presenter said supports goals such as reducing class sizes and funding after-school and kindergarten readiness programs.
A staff presenter explained SIA funds will help reduce class sizes by supporting additional teachers, fund after-school middle school and elementary programs, and finance Kinder Camp to build social and behavioral readiness for kindergarten. The presenter said some of the funds are already earmarked and that the allocation covers both the 2025-26 and 2026-27 school years; funds will flow to the district after the board report is posted and required paperwork is submitted.
Board members asked about timing, whether money had already been spent, and the effect of reduced projected revenue from the state between bienniums. The presenter said the current allocation differs from the last biennium by about $35,000 and that personnel costs and associated PERS obligations affect how SIA dollars are used. After brief discussion a motion was made and approved to accept the SIA allocation.
The board directed staff to post appropriate materials and proceed with required steps so funds can be received and budgeted.
