Summary

The Nassau Bay City Council voted unanimously on Feb. 9 to order two elections for May 2, 2026: a general election to elect the mayor and council positions 2, 4 and 6; and a special election asking voters to reauthorize the city's 0.25% local sales and use tax, dedicated to street maintenance and repair.
Maria (city staff) explained the candidate filing period and election logistics: filing opened Jan. 14 at 8 a.m. and closed Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. She also reported that Harris County informed municipalities it would not contract elections, so Nassau Bay will run its own election and staff have provided options for additional election equipment for council consideration.
Councilmember 14 moved to approve the general-election resolution (No. 2026-0209-1); the motion was seconded and passed 7–0. Councilmember 14 subsequently moved to approve the special-election resolution (No. 2026-0209-2) to reauthorize the city's quarter-cent sales tax under Texas Tax Code chapter 327; Councilmember Ashley seconded and the motion passed 7–0. City staff noted the quarter-cent has been used for about 25 years and currently contributes approximately $125,000 annually toward street maintenance.
Council also approved rescheduling the March 9 council meeting to March 16, 2026 to accommodate CCISD spring break (motion moved by Councilmember 14, seconded by Bridal Deitch; passed 7–0).
All three election-related resolutions were routine, and council directed staff to proceed with election preparations and return with any equipment or procedural recommendations required for the city-conducted election.
