Committee advances bill requiring employers to post veterans resource information

The Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness committee on March 13 advanced House Bill 1626, a bill by Representative Deasy that would require employers with more than 50 full‑time employees to display a standardized poster containing information about benefits and services available to veterans. The measure was amended and, as amended, will proceed to the House floor.

Representative Deasy told the committee the posting would include basic information about veterans services — for example, available mental‑health treatment, education and workforce training, and how to contact the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. "This bill would require employers to display a poster containing information for veterans in the workplace about various benefits and services available to them," Deasy said in committee.

Amendment A03479, offered by Representative Mark Kozick and explained by committee staff, would require the Department of Motor Vehicles to provide and publish the workplace posting and allow an employer to satisfy the requirement by placing the posting on an accessible page of the employer’s website. Staff said the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs is supportive of the concept but that additional work remains to finalize poster content and hosting arrangements.

The committee adopted Amendment A03479 by unanimous roll call and then voted to approve the underlying bill as amended. Representative O'Meara and others praised the measure as a way to make veterans aware of services they may not otherwise seek. The bill will move to the House floor for further consideration.
