Morrisville Borough Council voted unanimously July 15 to approve a conditional offer of employment, under Act 57, to hire Kevin DePaolo as a full-time police officer and administered his oath of office the same evening. The motion passed 8–0, and DePaolo was sworn in during the meeting.
The borough’s police chief, who addressed the council before the swearing-in, said he met DePaolo when the officer took the civil-service test in May and noted a background investigation and other hiring checks were completed. "He was professional, he was articulate, and he showed up for the test," the chief said, adding that DePaolo brings about 18 years of law-enforcement experience.
Mayor Gary Wallace and other council members congratulated DePaolo and welcomed his family, who attended the ceremony. The chief also used the report portion of the agenda to summarize recent public-safety incidents and department activity, including redeployment of patrols now that school is out and a July 4 enforcement review following resident complaints about fireworks.
The council’s personnel action followed a separate motion to accept the civil-service certified eligibility list. Council members exchanged no substantive debate on the hire; the votes on the eligibility list and the hire both passed 8–0. The mayor administered the oath and the chief offered brief remarks before the meeting moved on to other agenda items.
