Morrisville Borough Council voted to approve an Act 537 sewage facilities plan update on Dec. 16 that authorizes decommissioning the borough’s existing Morrisville Municipal Authority wastewater treatment plant and constructing a new facility at Keystone Trade Center in Falls Township.
Jacob Rigg of Gilmore and Associates told council the Act 537 plan is a borough planning document that must be adopted by resolution for the relocation of the treatment plant to proceed. Council then called for and passed a resolution approving the Sewage Facilities Act plan update; the motion passed 6-0 by voice vote.
Council members and the engineer noted the plan was prepared in coordination with the municipal authority and Falls Township. The resolution authorizes the borough to move forward with final engineering, coordination with Falls Township and other permitting steps required for decommissioning the existing plant and siting the new plant at Keystone Trade Center.
The engineer and council did not provide a construction cost estimate in the meeting record; project timeline references were limited to the plan-adoption step and subsequent engineering and permitting.
