Radnor curriculum committee reviews 2026–27 draft calendar, schedules Friday commencement

Radnor Township School District administrators presented the draft 2026–27 school calendar at the May 13 curriculum committee meeting, saying it preserves an after-Labor Day start, a full week for spring break and three K–8 early-dismissal professional-development half-days on Oct. 23, Feb. 5 and April 2.

Mister Bechtold, who presented the calendar, said the draft aligns professional development with the district’s MTSS data work and that the district will stagger recognition ceremonies so elementary and middle school events do not conflict with senior graduation. “We will be ending the school year for students on June 11,” Bechtold said, adding that eighth-grade recognition would be scheduled for June 9 and fifth-grade move-up ceremonies for June 10.

Board members asked about past experiments with an earlier spring break when Easter falls late and whether the district will resume in-school SAT administrations. Administrators said Radnor still administers the PSAT during the school day for grades 9–11 but had not run SATs during a normal school day since before 2011 except for a COVID-era exception in 2021. They also confirmed the high school will have virtual instructional days for election and primary days in the 2025–26 school year to meet high-school hour requirements under school code.

The administration said the calendar’s narrative and supporting materials are posted on BoardDocs and that formal board action to adopt the calendar will be part of the May board meeting packet.

The committee did not take a formal vote on the calendar during the curriculum meeting; the item will appear on the May board agenda for consideration.
