Baker Tilly outlines FY25 audit schedule; board accepts engagement letter

Representatives from Baker Tilly presented the district's FY25 audit plan and answered trustees' questions about scope and timing.

Rachel Whitecap of Baker Tilly told the board the firm will conduct interim procedures May 29—6 and May 30 and plan final fieldwork in the week of Aug. 29. She said auditors will review internal controls, test transactions, and perform federal-awards testing required for compliance with federal programs. "The goal of an audit is to provide reasonable assurance that the financial statements are free of material misstatement," Whitecap said during the presentation.

The board accepted Baker Tilly's engagement letter for FY25, a procedural step that authorizes the firm to begin work as scheduled. Administration also presented a tentative amended fiscal-year 2025 budget reflecting new grants, reimbursements and reallocations; the board set a public hearing on the amended budget for June 23, 2025 and directed the finance office to publish the required notice.

District staff said they will make accounting schedules available to auditors and that the audit team will coordinate with the business office to identify any new accounting standards (such as changes to the reporting of sick and vacation liabilities) that may affect presentation of the district's financial statements. The board recorded the motion to accept the engagement letter by roll call.
