Worcester County commissioners approve consent agenda, change order and several administrative items

Worcester County commissioners handled routine business and several administrative actions during their Dec. 16 meeting, approving consent items and multiple staff recommendations.
The board adopted the consent agenda (items 2–12) unanimously. It approved a final balancing change order for the Riddle Farm wastewater treatment plant that extended the contract from 360 to 438 days and reduced the contract amount from $3,547,890 to $3,322,436.42, a savings of $288,588.52. Commissioners also accepted staff notice that two conditions in a prior resolution had been met, making a 6% hotel rental room tax effective Jan. 1 and authorizing signature of amended sewerage transfer and spray‑irrigation MOU documents.
Other approved items included a temporary suspension of utility shutoffs for the Mystic Carver service area, a request to lower the speed limit in West Harbor Village, and approval to overspend the roads vehicle operating equipment account (the FY26 account had $180,000 budgeted and was reported at 87% expended halfway through the year). The board appointed Jennifer Sermon to the Agricultural Land Preservation Advisory Board and Jacqueline Cutlip to fill a District 6 vacancy on the Board of Education after the resignation of Katie Addis.
Commissioners offered seasonal remarks, noted a Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation projection of approximately $10.6 million in additional revenue for FY27, and adjourned for the holidays.
