Jones Leadership Academy PTO details hygiene drive; board members pledge support

Joanna White, PTO president at Jones Leadership Academy of Business, told the Toledo City School Board on Oct. 22 about her school's third annual hygiene drive, which runs Oct. 1–Oct. 31 and aims to distribute full-size hygiene supplies to every student without requiring requests or sign-outs.
"This is our third year," White said, describing the evolution from addressing period poverty to broader hygiene needs for all students. She named partners supporting the effort, including the Neighborhood Health Association, United Way, Unison (which contributed more than $500 this year), and ProMedica. White said partner organizations help match donations to maintain supply levels and that the program has helped boost attendance and reduce negative behaviors tied to unmet hygiene needs.
Board members praised White’s presentation and several pledged to share information and donate. Miss Barnes said the initiative "is changing lives" and expressed interest in replicating hygiene pantries across the district. White asked for board support and asked attendees to share information via social media to broaden community partnerships.
The drive accepts donations at listed business collection boxes and aims to create a sustainable free-hygiene pantry that can operate when school volunteers move on. The presentation included examples of partner matching and an intention to include inspiration notes in kits produced by community partners.
The board did not take formal action during the presentation but recorded praise and informal commitments of support from members.
