Kent County proclaims National Mentoring Month and honors Rebuilding Together Eastern Shore; MLK remembrance event set

Kent County Commissioners used part of their Jan. 6 meeting to present proclamations and community recognitions.
Commissioners signed a proclamation declaring January 2026 as National Mentoring Month in Kent County and presented it to Kelsey of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore. Kelsey said the organization celebrated 10 years of regional programs, served 368 children in Kent County last year and provided 462 resource connections to children and families.
The board also read a proclamation naming Jan. 19, 2026 as Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Remembrance Day in Kent County. Commissioners said the event will be held at Monary’s Dream Alliance at 10 a.m. and that there will be a free community breakfast, for which they sought sponsors.
Separately, the board presented certificates of recognition to Max Reuerman and Victor Pfeiffer for their work with Rebuilding Together Kent County / Eastern Shore. A representative said the organization completed about 76 repairs on 42 homes in the past year, with an average repair cost of about $5,500 per home and a reported current budget of over $600,000.
The proclamations and recognitions were presented without formal objection and the recipients and organizers thanked the board.
