Kent County commissioners approve licenses, trustee appointments and personnel actions

Kent County Commissioners approved a series of routine and personnel actions during their Jan. 6 meeting, taking a slate of motions by voice vote.
The board approved consent agenda items but separately agreed to revise the Dec. 16 regular-session minutes to reflect an omitted lengthy discussion about the Clean Chesapeake Coalition. The commissioners approved special class C (multiple-event) liquor license applications for Galena Volunteer Fire Company and Rock Hall Volunteer Fire Company after opening a public hearing and receiving no public comment.
The commissioners also approved two trustee nominations for the Kent County Library Board. After the vote the board publicly named Andrea Boothby Rice, a library faculty member at Washington College, and William Miles Campbell as new trustees.
The board approved a contract addendum that increases funding from Maryland Family Network to the Kent Family Center. Director Lisa Mazingo said $11,700 of the grant is earmarked for basic needs and that the center will begin a monthly mobile pantry for families with children under 5, restore some services cut during the prior budget cycle, and increase two employees’ hours (28 to 30 and 28 to 32). Commissioners voted to approve the addendum and the proposed budget.
On personnel policy, HR recommended replacing the term “disciplinary policy” with a corrective-action approach described as progressive correction. A motion to adopt the amended policy by resolution (identified in discussion as resolution 2026-1) carried by voice vote. The board also approved a conditional offer of employment for the candidate recommended to fill the systems-of-care coordinator vacancy.
All motions were approved by voice vote with “ayes” recorded on the record; where individual roll-call tallies were not recorded in the meeting transcript, outcomes were announced as approved by the chair.
