Planning commission approves final plan for TGOMD Massey propane facility expansion

The Kent County Planning Commission voted Jan. 8 to grant final site-plan approval to TGOMD LLC for expansion of gravel parking and turnaround areas at its existing LPG storage and distribution facility near 12206 Galena Road, across from the recently-reviewed Halo Edmonds Creek property. The expansion does not add the two additional 90,000-gallon tanks that were part of an earlier approval; the current request covers circulation and parking improvements to accommodate tractor-trailer operations.
Planning staff said the proposal is consistent with the county comprehensive plan and Unified Development Ordinance and that stormwater and sediment controls are under review. The commission conditioned final signature on approval of required sediment/erosion control and stormwater management plans and payment of any required sureties.
Applicants, represented by Laurie Walter of Lane Engineering and Jeff Dean, described the operational need to improve turning radii for tractor-trailer delivery trucks and to expand the submerged gravel wetland treatment area to handle additional impervious surface. They said outreach and emergency-response coordination has occurred with nearby volunteer fire companies and that training is planned for local responders.
The motion to grant final approval was moved and seconded and passed by voice vote. The commission noted that staff would keep working with applicants to resolve any remaining stormwater comments before final sign-off.
