Sterling Heights City Council completed a large block of appointments and reappointments to city boards and commissions, moving several multi-person motions that carried by voice vote.
Mayoral and council appointments included seats on the Planning Commission, Board of Ordinance Appeals, Board of Review, General Employees Retirement System Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Corridor Improvement Authority, Economic Development Corporation Brownfield Authority, Arts Commission, Beautification Commission, Board of Code Appeals, Citizens Advisory Committee (CDBG), Community Alliance, Election Commission, Historical Commission, Library Board of Trustees, Solid Waste Management Commission, Sustainability Commission and the Youth Advisory Board. Several reappointments were noted as continuity for existing members; other nominations were presented as new appointments pending the appointees meeting charter qualifications and taking the oath of office within two weeks.
Council members complimented nominees' prior service and urged some boards (notably the youth advisory board) to return with regular presentations about their work. Where applicable, the council recorded terms ending dates in motions and required appointees to meet charter subsection qualifications.
