Burlington’s City Council on Sept. 16 approved a package of consent-agenda items and took a set of routine procedural actions.
Among consent items approved were authorization for the purchasing manager to sell surplus city vehicles by public auction, establishment of a Burlington Arboretum advisory board and the appointment of Mark Danley, approval of a temporary street closure for the city’s annual Christmas parade, and a resolution to apply for state revolving loan/grant assistance for a PFAS drinking-water treatment upgrade. The council also adopted the city’s water-resources capital improvement plan and approved budget amendments related to the Paramount Theater Events Center and to allocate a donation from Broken Chains Biker Church to Burlington Fire Department education programs.
Personnel and administrative items approved included creation of an assistant recreation and parks director position and a youth diversion specialist position for the police department funded via a Governor’s Crime Commission grant for the period Jan. 1, 2026–Dec. 31, 2027.
Council deferred consideration of several voluntary noncontiguous annexation petitions to a future date and set Oct. 7, 2025 as the public-hearing date for several other annexation matters. The council also approved a temporary sidewalk closure adjacent to an earlier-approved street closure for a ticketed Burlington Food Halls event on Oct. 3, 2025.
Procedural notes: the council approved the additions to the consent agenda and adopted the agenda as amended before approving the consent items by voice vote.
