Public‑works staff provided an update on road resurfacing and sewer work at the Oct. 6 council work session, outlining reasons for change orders and schedule adjustments.
Staff said sewer work is approximately 9–10% complete and that crews have completed manhole rehabilitation or replacement in several locations. Based on revised bid prices, staff recommended replacing some manholes rather than rehabbing them due to greater longevity. To accommodate the additional scope, staff said they will award an additional 70 days of construction time for the contractor to finish the sewer work.
On resurfacing, staff recommended increasing the contractor’s allowed work by up to 50% under contract provisions to maintain steady progress against the originally approved $15,000,000 bond. Staff also said the contingency funds previously approved by council are insufficient to cover the full cost of the incorporated changes (change orders related to sewer and resurfacing).
The presentation included a project-completion estimate by street and noted that once sewer segments are finished, water-line installation will follow on each street section. No final contract approval occurred at the work session; staff said they will bring related agenda items forward for council consideration.
