Ryan and Anderson Rathman, introduced to council as the stadium’s leadership, described a transformation of Burlington Athletic Stadium since 2019: a 69.8% increase in average game attendance and an increase in total visitors projected to exceed 130,000 by the end of 2025. Management said merchandise sales have reached all 50 states and that staff has grown from a two‑person operation to five full‑time employees.
The presenters outlined the stadium’s role as a community venue for concerts, graduations, charity events and high‑school tournaments. Management said they are finalizing a five‑year extension with Major League Baseball to ensure continued high‑level summer collegiate play in Burlington and that agreements with the North Carolina high school association and Region 10 will bring yearly tournaments, which drive hotel stays and local tourism.
City staff (Speaker 7) confirmed that the lease renewal requires a 30‑day notice and can be placed on the Nov. 18 agenda. No formal vote on the lease occurred at the work session.
