The City of Burlington Historic Preservation Commission approved two property applications during its October 2025 meeting: a 24-by-22, 11-foot accessory storage building at 623 West Davis Street and a 12-by-24 (about 240-square-foot) rear deck at 2447 Glencoe Street.
Planning staff summarized both cases and recommended approval. Planning Director Lawson said the proposed shed at 623 West Davis “will be 10 feet off of the side property line and 60 feet off of the rear property line,” and that staff had included findings of fact tied to the city’s preservation standards in the meeting packet. The applicants told the Commission the shed will match the garage’s siding and shingles and will replace a deteriorated lean‑to on the lot.
For the Glencoe property, applicant Michael Jackson (identified in the packet as Mr. Jackson) described the deck as a 12-by-24 outdoor space with no external stairs and stainless‑steel cable in place of traditional pickets; Jackson said the materials and paint will be matched to the house. Lawson noted Preservation North Carolina had already reviewed and approved the Glencoe proposal and recommended the Commission approve it with a condition that the GIS‑mapped setbacks align with the unified development ordinance requirements.
Votes at a glance: the Commission moved and seconded approval of the 623 West Davis COA; members responded affirmatively during the roll call and staff said it would issue the COA and the accessory‑structure permit. Similarly, the Commission approved the Glencoe deck by voice vote after the motion to include the staff‑recommended GIS/setback condition was seconded.
The Commission’s actions were procedural approvals tied to the historic district standards and the unified development ordinance; staff will issue the written COA documents and permit paperwork for the 623 West Davis project and will record the Glencoe approval per normal administrative practice. No variances or special relief were requested for either item during the meeting.
The Commission closed these items after the approvals and moved on to other agenda items.
