Judge Judy Calhoun told the council that court administrator Emily Anderson resigned (last day listed as Feb. 20) and requested permission to pay out accrued PTO ($15,500) and to hire a replacement. Calhoun said the position had effectively morphed over 25 years and that the courts might need either a full-time administrator (posted at $75,000) or an assistant (part time or full time) to handle the workload and to provide continuity.
Council members pressed for job descriptions, clarity on whether the post should be 32.5 or 40 hours and whether the county should fund a full-time assistant. After debate, the council amended the larger appropriation request to isolate the $15,500 payout for the court administrator (line 129-101 court administrator) and approved that payment by roll call. Associated payroll taxes — FICA ($1,186) and PERF ($1,736) — were also approved.
Members then moved to table the remaining hiring and appropriation requests and asked the judge to return with written job descriptions and a break-down of costs for full-time and part-time options before further action. The judge said she would provide job descriptions and other documentation for the council’s next meeting.
Next steps: Judge Calhoun will provide job descriptions and a detailed cost breakdown (part-time vs. full-time) for the court administrator/assistant positions; the council will revisit the request at a future meeting.
