The Brighton Central School District Board of Education approved a slate of routine but consequential items at its May 7 meeting, including professional services contracts for capital-improvement design, an engineering services contract for a new high-school driveway signal and modifications to a pedestrian crossing (hawk signals), tentative agreements with employee groups, and participation in a Monroe 1 BOCES cooperative bid for music equipment.
Board members clarified that approving professional services begins a multi-step process: designs will take months, State Education Department (SED) approvals may be required and a competitive bid process will follow before construction could begin. One board member estimated design and approval steps could push potential construction to 2026.
The board approved tentative agreements with the Brighton Education Paraprofessionals Association and the Brighton Custodial Maintenance Association; administrators described these as collectively bargained contracts intended to maintain competitive wages and market parity. The BOCES cooperative bid for music equipment and supplies was approved to reduce procurement costs through joint purchasing.
The board also completed first readings of three policy updates (Policy 5674 on data networks and security access; Policy 6121 on personnel harassment in the workplace; Policy 5677 on privacy and security for student and staff data) and moved them to future agendas for a second reading.
Votes on routine motions were carried by voice vote; most motions were approved without recorded roll-call tallies in the transcript.
