Morrow County proclaims September 2024 National Service Dog Month, recognizes fair volunteers

The Morrow County Board of Commissioners read and signed a proclamation declaring September 2024 National Service Dog Month during its Aug. 28 meeting.

Speaker 2 read the proclamation on the board’s behalf, highlighting service dogs’ role in supporting people with disabilities and referencing Canine Companions, a nonprofit that provides trained assistance animals. The proclamation text read to the record included figures presented in the reading: that 64,000,000 adults and children have a disability and that there are 16,000 service dogs from accredited training programs nationwide (language as read in the proclamation). The board signed the proclamation as presented.

Speaker 2 also publicly thanked fair volunteers and named Angie Bush and Dale Hoogler as outstanding fair supporters. The board noted those recognitions in the meeting record. The meeting record also includes a staffing announcement: an employee’s hours were changed from part time (noted as over 30 hours) to full time (32 hours), and commissioners moved and seconded that item.

"It is pretty impressive how the dogs are trained," Speaker 2 said after the proclamation reading, noting personal familiarity with service-dog handlers.

The meeting continued with routine business and adjourned after reminders about the Labor Day schedule and a final roll call.
