Council approves rezoning to permit telecommunications tower for 911 center

The Burlington City Council approved a rezoning that will allow the installation of a telecommunications tower at 780 Plantation Drive to support the Alamance County 9-1-1 center.
Jamie Lawson presented the request, saying the proposal would change the parcel from Light Industrial to Conditional Industrial to accommodate a major tower. Lawson noted the Technical Review Committee approved the site plan and the Planning & Zoning Commission recommended approval.
There were no public speakers during the hearing on the item. A council member moved to approve the rezoning based on consistency with the comprehensive plan and the motion passed by voice vote.
Staff said future development will be subject to the city’s Unified Development Ordinance and any required site development standards.
