Radnor committee urges PSBA attendance, weighs platform proposals and selects delegates

Committee members heard from Miss Gerten, who said the "PSBA advocacy day is scheduled for May 13, in Harrisburg," and summarized PSBA’s priorities this year as stable and continued funding, flexibility in the use of resources, charter and cyber school reform to relieve local financial burdens, expanded mental-health funding streams, and school safety improvements. The committee discussed whether to submit changes to PSBA’s annual legislative platform, a process the chair described as difficult and contested at the delegate assembly.
The chair told members the district is eligible to send three voting delegates to the PSBA delegate assembly and encouraged in-person attendance. "We get to send 3 delegates," the chair said, adding that additional attendees may attend without voting. Dr. Kearney reminded the committee that delegate nominations must be submitted and affirmed by the full board by June 27, though the district prefers to finalize names in May to facilitate registration and logistics.
Members discussed the limits and timing of platform proposals. The chair said proposals are due in June and require board affirmation and majority support; she also explained the on-site rules for offering a late proposal are stringent and require a large threshold of support to move into debate at the PSBA assembly. Several members recommended attending even if the district does not submit formal proposals, noting the value of observing statewide discussions and networking with other districts.
No formal motions or votes were recorded at the committee meeting. The committee will forward any recommended delegate nominations to the full board for final approval before the June deadline.
