Eric Eeks, CSISD director of fine arts, told trustees that choir programs at both comprehensive high schools have grown and are understaffed compared with peer districts; he said a second director is standard once ensembles exceed 100–120 students and cited national invitations and travel demands as reasons to add staff.
Eric Eeks, the district’s director of fine arts, presented audit findings and regional comparisons to support adding full‑time assistant choir directors at A&M Consolidated and College Station High School. Eeks said peer schools in the district’s competitive region are generally staffed with two or more directors while CSISD’s high‑school programs currently operate with a single director.
Eeks highlighted program growth and out‑of‑school demands, including national performances and travel: his presentation noted Purple Rain — an ensemble at College Station High School — was invited to perform at Lincoln Center in New York City in just its second year. He said those opportunities increase planning, supervision and instructional needs outside the regular school day and that common practice supports adding a second director once programs exceed roughly 100–120 students.
Trustees reacted favorably to the student‑success examples while also asking about funding and whether the positions should be full‑time teacher roles with stipends. Eeks said the recommendation supports continuity, feeder alignment, recruitment and retention; administrators will include the positions in budget deliberations and provide cost details during the regular budget cycle.
