Strongsville City Council on Oct. 20 voted to extend the city's transfer-station and waste-disposal contract for five years, accepted a federal traffic-safety grant and approved a subdivision plat and a slate of collective-bargaining amendments.
The council unanimously adopted Ordinance 2025115, authorizing a five-year addendum with Browning Ferris Industries of Ohio Inc. to continue operation of the Strongsville transfer station and the transport and disposal of the city's solid waste. Joe Walker, who described his role with the solid-waste district, told the council: "So we're exercising the 5 year extension with Republic Waste, no change in the level of service," and said the city's transfer-station model produces a favorable per-stop cost compared with nearby communities.
The extension was adopted after council members said residents value flexible pickup options and a seven-day transfer-station drop-off. Council members asked the contractor to increase attention to grounds maintenance and to promptly address debris and puncture hazards.
