Board approves transfer of Cliff baseball field to Grant County; OKs consent agenda and several budget adjustments

Consent agenda and finance details: Director of finance Michelle McCain presented the consent agenda and supporting budget adjustments and asked the board to approve checks written in August and a set of BARs. McCain reported the checks written in August totaled $1,753,732.59 and described a unit-value adjustment from the state that increases the district’s operational revenue by $493,095.16—money McCain said will help offset a transportation funding reduction of roughly $306,000.
McCain also described a series of grants and awards that will be entered into the budget: a New Mexico Grown Planning Grant for $12,787 to buy locally grown fruits and vegetables for school cafeterias; a special allocation of $40,000 for new track-and-field mats at CLIF; a $20,000 award for the GRADS program; $10,140.49 in reimbursement to HB33 from proceeds of a vaping-related lawsuit; and $105,000 awarded to La Plata Middle School as Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) funds. She also reported $41,764.62 in proceeds from GovDeals online auctions of obsolete items, which the district will allocate to operational/technology needs.
Board action: On a motion by Mister Khan with a second from Mrs. Clement, the board approved the consent agenda (voice vote). Later, on the Cliff baseball-field item, the motion to transfer (moved by Doctor Diaz, seconded by Mister McMillan) passed with Mister Khan recorded as abstaining; remaining board votes were recorded as in favor.
What’s next: Staff will move forward with title and closing procedures for the Cliff parcel as described in the agreement; finance staff will adjust budget entries to reflect the newly authorized BARs and grant awards.
