The Silver Consolidated Schools Board of Education spotlighted student achievements and campus programs during its Oct. 21 meeting.
Bob Carson of Kiwanis presented student‑of‑the‑month awards to Bailey Clement (Silver High), Aubrey Hirsch (Cliff Middle) and Lola Torres (La Plata), praising musical leadership, academic growth and character. The board and community recognized winners with certificates and photos.
Silver High’s National History Day sponsor reported strong national contest results: students placed in the top 10 and earned room‑level wins on several projects. “To place that high in a room is hard,” the sponsor said, and credited past program leadership for growth in participation.
Stephanie Moon, the new ag teacher at Silver High, introduced members of the FFA Agricultural Mechanics team bound for nationals in Indianapolis and requested board consideration of travel support. Students described events ranging from electrical code exams to timed team tasks (including concrete forming and welding).
La Plata Middle School eighth‑grade house leaders presented their house‑system goals for 2024–25, reporting a 92% attendance rate, fewer tardies, reduced bullying incidents and a set of new electives and enrichment activities. Students said the house model increased engagement and morale by offering leadership roles and more chances for peers to participate.
Board members commended the presentations and took photographs with students before moving into the rest of the business agenda.
