Staff reports new adopt-a-spot applications, park spots remain closed for renovations

Staff (Speaker 5) updated the board on adopt-a-spot availability and recent applications. Two planter locations (Opal and Brian) remain closed while park renovations continue; staff said those sites should reopen closer to the end of the year. William Houston Memorial Park was identified as needing irrigation repairs before any adoption can proceed there.
Speaker 5 described the current program scope — planter boxes, entryway signs and monument signs are typical adoptable units — and noted that parks and highly trafficked TxDOT corridors are generally excluded from full adoption because city maintenance crews and contractor mowing provide those services.
One recent adopter took marquee spot number 3 and indicated plans to maintain that flanking planting area for visibility. Staff told the board they had offered available spots to recent applicants and would update the board next month on who has accepted.
