Saginaw outlines McElroy Road Phase 3: construction planned for 2026, voters’ 2021 bond to pay most costs

City Engineer Trenton Tidwell told residents at a public open house that McElroy Road Phase 3 is funded for design and construction and that the city expects to begin construction in 2026. "This is funded for design and construction, going to construction next summer," Tidwell said, summarizing the project as the last construction item from the 2021 bond program.
The project covers McElroy from just east of the new Knowles roundabout to a point short of Main Street, leaving room for future widening at Main Street. Tidwell described existing conditions: the west side of the corridor is a three-lane asphalt roadway without curb, gutter or storm drain, while the east side is mainly two lanes with curb and gutter but limited storm drainage, which funnels runoff onto Main Street.
