SAGINAW — The Saginaw Parks Board voted to sponsor programming for a planned Switchyard Cinco de Mayo festival, a new community event proposed by organizer Erica Gamble.
Gamble told the board the festival would leverage the Switchyard’s existing Taco Tuesday food‑truck culture and include mariachi and other live performers. “We have a lot of food trucks that are, like, taco trucks... why not turn it into a fun festival?” she said, asking the board to consider helping pay for live music, children’s activities and decorations.
Board members suggested recruiting local youth and community groups to perform and discussed options for sponsorship and cost‑sharing. A motion to approve the parks sponsorship as requested was made and passed.
Next steps: Gamble and staff will continue planning and look for community performers and/or sponsors; staff will coordinate event details and return with more specifics as programming and budgets are developed.
