SAGINAW — The Saginaw Parks Board voted to reimburse a local Boy Scout troop $300 for a project to build and repaint benches at Highland Station Dog Park.
Pedro Zimbron, speaking for parks staff, brought the request to the board and described how the program would work: “the way the grant works would be, they will provide everything. We will reimburse them afterwards,” he said, adding that all work must meet parks department specifications.
Board members asked for a schematic showing the number and placement of benches and requested that Public Works provide on‑site supervision while work proceeds. One board member moved to approve reimbursement contingent on Public Works approval of placement, schematics and materials; the motion was seconded and passed.
The project was presented as part of an idea the parks staff would like to make available annually to scout groups and other community organizations. Zimbron said the troop’s requested reimbursement amount is $300. Public Works staff agreed to assist with logistics, including predrilling holes and assigning a park crew leader to oversee work when it occurs.
Next steps: staff will obtain schematics and placement details from the troop and return to the board with that information at a future meeting before final reimbursement is released.
