The Strongsville City Council used its Jan. 5, 2026 session to confirm appointments and act on a series of routine ordinances and administrative items.
Appointments and confirmations: Council confirmed Robert W. Hawk to the Board of Zoning Appeals (four-year term effective 01/17/2026), reappointed Jeanie Georgiadis and Ken Dooner to four-year terms on the Civil Service Commission (effective 02/01/2026), and reappointed Michael McPolo to a four-year term on the Planning Commission (effective 01/19/2026). Each appointment was moved, seconded and approved by roll call.
Ordinances and grants: By motions to suspend the rules and adopt, council approved an ordinance enacting a new chapter on demolition/removal of structures (title 8, part 14), authorized acceptance of funds under the Cuyahoga County Solid Waste District’s 2026 Community Recycling Awareness Grant, approved a lease agreement with the Chagrin Valley Dispatch Council for space in the city communications center (13213 Pearl Road), and ratified an application under the Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant (approximate amount cited $16,375). Council also authorized the public auction sale of six obsolete police vehicles. For each of these items the clerk called the roll and recorded affirmative votes from council members present; no negative votes were recorded in the transcript.
Communications and permits: Under communications, council reviewed two liquor-permit applications and moved for conditional objections based on alleged noncompliance with building, health or safety codes; the objections were to be withdrawn if the Building Department later confirmed compliance.
The council adjourned with no additional miscellaneous business. Several items were placed on second reading or referred back to the Planning Commission for further review (for example, the fiber-optic installers ordinance was amended and referred).
