Bedford City receives update on bond-funded school renovations; cosmetology space to reopen for fall

“We are underway with the cosmetology renovation project at Bedford High School,” the TEPT representative told the board, saying Panzeca Construction has completed demolition and that new plumbing, shampoo stations, ceiling and HVAC work are under way. The presenter said the renovated space is about 3,000 square feet and will be brought up to current ventilation and code requirements.
The project team said the Ohio State Board of Cosmetology will certify the program once final inspections are complete; the TEPT representative added that final inspections and occupancy are expected in July, with certification to follow so students may begin classes in August or on day one of the school year.
On community input, the presenter said the district collected nearly 470 responses to a public survey and held community meetings and staff engagement sessions to help shape schematic designs and exterior aesthetics. An eco charrette focused on sustainability goals was held on June 5, and the team noted they are working to meet OFCC standards.
Why it matters: The renovation is part of a larger bond program tied to new school construction and site planning; the board was told a cost estimate will be available in mid-August when the project team submits documents to Panzeca Construction for a first budget review. The TEPT representative said updated site plans and additional photos will be shared at future meetings.
