Bedford City Board adopts Savvas MyView for K–5 ELA, My Perspectives for 6–12

Superintendent and staff presenters described a committee review that used EdReports findings and an equity‑focused rubric, including Reading League criteria tied to the science of reading and Ohio guidance. The review team, comprised of more than 40 staff members and volunteers, narrowed submissions to several vendors and materials the committee considered: Houghton Mifflin (Into Reading/Into Literature), McGraw Hill (Wonders, StudySync), and Savvas (MyView and My Perspectives). After classroom and vendor review, the committee recommended Savvas MyView for K–5 and My Perspectives for grades 6–12.
"We are making the recommendation for Savvas MyView for our K to 5 ELA curriculum," said an adoption presenter during the meeting, describing components that will be provided to schools, including teacher editions, student interactive workbooks, intervention resources and digital program components. Presenters said the materials include embedded writing instruction and supports for multilingual learners; assessment details will be further explored during implementation.
The board discussed the timeline and confirmed the adoption complies with the district’s obligation under state guidance and the science‑of‑reading initiative noted by presentors. The motion to adopt the curriculum (agenda item 6.06) was moved by Miss Jacobs and seconded by Mrs. Carter; roll call showed unanimous approval and the motion passed 4–0.
The district said it will implement training and professional development for teachers throughout the year to support the transition to the new materials. The board did not specify implementation dates beyond confirming the adoption is intended to be in place for the 2024–25 school year as required by state timelines.
Next steps: staff will finalize procurement and training schedules and report back to the board on implementation plans and assessment details.
