Bedford City School Board approves routine items, accepts treasurers forecast and welcomes new teachers

The Bedford City School Board met for a regular session and unanimously approved routine business including minutes from the Aug. 5, 2025 meeting, a consent agenda, a services contract and a building permit.
At the start of the meeting the board approved the minutes from its Aug. 5, 2025 regular meeting after a motion moved by Mrs. Carter and seconded by Mr. Akins; the roll-call vote passed 5 to 0. The board then approved the consent agenda (Item 5.01), moved by Mr. Everson and seconded by Mrs. Carter; that motion also passed on a 5-0 roll-call vote.
Mr. Walters, sitting in for the superintendent, introduced a new art teacher, Miss Alyssa Organo, and the board offered congratulations. The board approved a services contract for the Executive Director of Human Resources (Item 6.01) after a motion from Mrs. Carter with a second from Mrs. Macklin; the motion passed 5 to 0. A separate motion to approve a building permit (Item 6.02), moved by Mrs. Turner Burch and seconded by Mrs. Carter, likewise passed on a 5-0 vote.
The treasurer provided a brief report on fund deposits and a required five-year forecast update. The district reported that the Department of Economic Development (DED) accepted the districts written plan; the district updated fiscal year 2024 actuals and fiscal year 2025 assumptions and said it would defer projecting fiscal years 2026'2028 until there is confirmation the district is following the written plan. The board approved the treasurers item (7.01) on a 5-0 roll-call vote.
Board members and staff offered welcome remarks for the new school year, thanked staff who organized new-teacher orientation and breakfast, and noted convocation scheduled for Monday the 19th. A board member also announced the first football game of the season, a home game against New Dona on the 23rd. The board adjourned after moving to do so; the next regular meeting was announced for the first Thursday in September and a community engagement event was scheduled for Sept. 7 at Ellenwood in Bedford at 10:00 a.m.
Actions taken at the meeting were procedural and routine; there were no substantive policy debates or contested votes.
