Alma commission approves routine resolutions, audits and appointments

The Alma City Commission handled a series of routine but consequential items in its meeting, adopting resolutions and agreements across finance, events, personnel and procurement.
Key approvals included: ratifying short-term investments (Treasury/CD), approving an event permit for "Hope in the Park" (live band at Wright Park on Sept. 10), closing Amy Street for a fall picnic for the Nativity of the Lord/Saint Mary's event on Sept. 28, a noise-variance for Pine Knapp Bar to host a live band on Aug. 23 under Ordinance No. 605, and updating authorized MERS signatories to allow the city manager, finance director and human resources to sign certain documents.
On contracts and audits, the commission authorized an engagement letter with O and O CPAs for the city audit and single audit for $35,850 and a separate engagement for the Alma Transit Center audit (about $29,000). A change order updated a wastewater sludge removal contract vendor from Michigan Agribusiness Solutions to Biotech Agronomics Incorporated following a company sale; staff said cost and terms remain unchanged.
Appointments included naming an MML convention designee (Andrew volunteered) and appointing Timothy Rafts to fill a vacant seat on the Elmore Planning Commission through 06/30/2026; Mr. Rafts was present and the motion carried.
The commission also approved payment of the night's bills by voice vote and received several routine departmental reports.
