The Alma City Commission authorized renewal of an energy demand-response agreement with Consumers Energy for a two-year term starting in 2025 through May 31, 2027, and authorized the mayor to sign the contract.
Staff said the city has participated in the program previously and that the agreement has provided modest revenue to the wastewater fund. Public Services staff described past activations — the city has been asked to run its standby generator infrequently and typically for two-hour events — and discussed diesel consumption and maintenance implications. Staff reported the city recently received an annual payment and noted the program also helps validate the generator’s full-load performance.
Commissioners asked about diesel fuel costs, maintenance scheduling and the effect on the city’s monthly generator maintenance routines; staff responded that prior activations had not imposed significant cost or maintenance burdens and that the program also affords a secondary maintenance check on equipment. The motion to renew carried on a voice vote.
