Commissioners OK amendment to fire training agreement, approve $280,000 budget amendment and appoint new recreation board member

Madison County commissioners voted on Feb. 23 to amend the agreement with the Madison County Fire Association governing the county fire training facility and to approve a related classroom budget amendment.

Jackson and staff described edits to the amendment that clarify future use of the property and replace some references to structures with references to the entire property. The chair asked for a motion; a motion ‘‘by commissioner Adam’’ with a second by ‘‘commissioner Kirk’’ (as recorded in the meeting transcript) was entered and the board approved the amendment.

The board then considered a formal budget amendment of $280,000 to pay outstanding invoices related to the fire training facility classroom project. Staff presented a two‑sheet packet — an auditors’ budget amendment form and a summary showing funds spent and department contributions. A board member moved to approve the $280,000; the motion was seconded and the board voted to carry the amendment. Staff said invoices will be paid as they come in and the top sheet is for auditors' records.

Separately, the board considered appointing Ethan Seagrave to the Recreation Advisory Board for District 3. Commissioner May introduced Seagrave as a lifelong resident with young children; a motion (second by Commissioner Kirk as recorded) carried and Seagrave was appointed.

Votes at a glance: the amendment to the fire training agreement and the $280,000 budget amendment were approved by the board during the meeting; the recreation board appointment was also approved.

Next steps: the county will implement the amended agreement terms with the Madison County Fire Association, process invoices under the approved budget amendment, and notify the Recreation Advisory Board of the new District 3 representative.
