The Forest Lake Parks and Recreation Commission on June 18 recommended that the City Council accept the low bid from Deutschlander Fencing LLC for fence and dugout improvements at Cooling Camp baseball fields and authorized a total project cost not to exceed $100,000.
Jeremy Trapp, vice president of the Forest Lake Baseball Association, told the commission the association has invested in the park over several years and thanked staff for including the project in the CIP. "...we've, I would say at least $40,000 that we've put into the park to make it better," Trapp said, describing dugouts, fencing and a new shed previously added by the group.
Staff explained the contractor’s low bid is about $86,000; public works will separately purchase and install the dugout rooftop material because bidders excluded that work. The $100,000 project cap reflects the bid plus the city's additional material and installation costs.
The motion to recommend council approval was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote. Staff said work would be scheduled after field use and permit coordination, with a plan to complete construction in the fall so fields are ready for spring play.
