The Forest Lake Parks and Recreation Commission on June 18 voted to authorize staff to negotiate a new agreement with Foursome Golf Management Group LLC to operate Castlewood Golf Course and recommended the City Council approve up to $80,000 to address drainage problems on the course.
The actions followed a staff presentation and an update from Henry, the Foursome manager, who highlighted rising rounds and revenue since 2023 and described the clubhouse’s year-round programming. "We're up, little over 8,000 compared to last May," Henry said, noting steady momentum in rounds and use of the clubhouse simulators.
Commissioners discussed the scope of the $80,000 request, which staff said covers drainage improvements to specific greens (primarily greens 3 and 5) and does not include irrigation replacement. Public works staff later said full irrigation replacement was previously estimated at about $700,000 two years ago and could be nearer $900,000 now; that project would be separate and scheduled as a larger CIP item.
During open forum, resident Barb Pribble urged the commission to consider naming the Castlewood clubhouse for longtime community leader Jim Trudeau, recounting Trudeau’s work running the course years ago and his personal investment in it. Commissioners thanked her for raising the idea and said the naming suggestion could be discussed in future agenda work.
The motions were moved and seconded on the floor and approved by voice vote. Staff will proceed with negotiations with Foursome and prepare a recommendation for the City Council regarding the drainage work.
