Board approves consent agenda after finance report that included proposed 1,200-iPad purchase

The Pennsbury School District board approved the consent agenda on Feb. 19 after committee reports that included several recommended purchases and procurement items.

During the finance committee report, members reviewed multiple items slated for approval: a Right-to-Know management software renewal (initial term $9,247.77; subsequent annual $10,128.51), an $85,500 donation of a robotic arm to Bucks County Technical High School, an E-rate-funded firewall purchase (district share reported as $104,232.37), 432 Ruckus wireless access points (district share after E-rate, $93,206.48), a vendor work-order-platform upgrade, an external/internal/wireless penetration test (not to exceed $20,250) and a proposal to purchase 1,200 iPads at a total cost of $616,959.30 (including three-year accidental-damage protection, management licenses and 15 charge carts). The finance report noted Apple buyback guarantees ($75 per device after three years; $50 after four years).

A motion to approve the consent agenda was made, seconded and carried on a roll-call vote. The recorded votes (board members present) were in the affirmative and the chair declared the motion passed.

Board members did not debate each line item in detail during the public session; many of the finance items were listed as recommended actions from the committee. Facilities and bidding updates were reported separately: the new high-school project is out to bid with public bid opening scheduled for March 5 and, if all goes well, board approval of bids is anticipated March 19.

The purchase proposals noted during the meeting will be brought forward for formal action as part of the consent agenda or separate action items in subsequent board business, as listed on the district's agenda.
