Fulshear updates rails-to-trails participation, seeks local trail connections

A council member serving on the regional rails-to-trails local government corporation updated the council on progress and challenges for the corridor that would connect Eagle Lake, Wallace and Fulshear.
Speaker 10 said several jurisdictions either dropped out or never formally committed (Weston Lakes, Simonton), creating a gap between Eagle Lake and Fulshear. With the Westpark Toll Road project and existing built-out areas such as Polo Ranch, the original continuous-rail concept is truncated inside Fulshearso staff are exploring alternative local connections. One specific idea is to convert part of 1st Street into a trail to create an eastwest connection into downtown while requiring less right-of-way.
The speaker said the city applied for a Texas Parks & Wildlife grant last year and is talking with property owners about right-of-way and alignment options; Fulshears goal is to terminate the local trail at Fulshear Junction and Polo Ranch and to pursue creative under/overpass solutions across TX-1093 or the planned toll road to create northsouth connections.
Council thanked the presenter and encouraged continued participation and creative outreach to adjacent jurisdictions. No actions or funding commitments were made at the meeting.
